Die Ausstellung ist als gesamtes interdisziplinäres Happening inzeniert, ist das Abbild ihrer Einzelteile und mehr. Von einem zentralen Ausstellungsraum aus flutet sie an naturheilige Orte, streift nur scheinbar konträre Ansätze und inszeniert. Industrielle Kultur ist im Jahr 2010 erwachsener geworden und bietet die Faszination einer schwer fassbaren Moderne.

Gezeigt und erlebt werden Grafiken, Objekte, Videoschnitte, Happenings und Musik der Industrial Gruppen Lyssa Humana und Delir Noir.

A sound art exhibition – in the age of industrial culture

The exhibition “Zwischen Abscheu und Extase” (Between Revulsion and Ecstasy) is laid out as holistic, interdisciplinary Happening. It is the reflection of its single parts and more. 

Starting from a central space it drifts to naturally sacred places, touches approaches that are contrary at first glance, prepares the stage.

Industrial Culture of the year 2010 has grown up and offers the fascination of a hardly comprehensible age of modernity.

To be seen and experienced are objects, graphics, video cut-ups, happenings and music of the industrial groups Lyssa Humana and Delir Noir.

Curators are Albert Plank and Säm Wagner.

Lyssa humana ist weniger ein loser Verbund mit festem Regelwerk als   vielmehr eine (personell) feste Gruppierung mit einer bewußt offenen  Auffassung  von Kultur. Enttäuscht und sogar entsetzt über die  (uneingestandene)  Kleinbürgerlichkeit auch der linken Szene war Lyssa  humana zunächst ein  Aufbegehren gegen die Zensur der bürgerlichen  Kulturobrigkeit und die  Selbstzensur der alternativen Meinungsmacher.  Es galt den Elan der  frühen Moderne, v.a. des Dada, wieder aufzugreifen  und zeitgemäß  umzusetzen und fortzudenken, daher der Begriff der  'kulturellen  Wiederaufrüstung'. 'Apokalyptisch' ist eine solche Kultur,  da sie  sozusagen endlos gegen den Wind aller Richtungen in der  gegenwärtigen Kultur  anzukämpfen hat. 'Industrial' ist für Lyssa humana  musikalisch der  Kulminationspunkt aus Luigi Russolos futuristischem  Lärm-Manifest, John  Cages Ästhetik aleatorischer Klangerzeugung, dem  elektronischen Pop von  Kraftwerk und der D.I.Y.- Maxime der  Punk-Rebellion.

Lyssa humana is an independent art group that works with film, writing, object art and sound. From the beginning on it was also active as an organizer. Many of the performances were presented together with Delir Noir. Hand-made mini series are disguised as audio media, but are conceived as gesamtkunstwerk. Lyssa humana initially emerged out of the 'Nachtkino' (night cinema). In the mid 1980s Nachtkino was a small group within the local film club AKF that organized the cinema in the city gallery, Kino im Leeren Beutel, now called Filmgalerie. This night cinema was a special program showing b-pictures, underground movies, music clips, genre movies, etc. The program became extremely successful with the audience and soon found many regulars who didn't want to miss an evening. Tilo Ettl, the recently deceased Walter Harteis and William Kretschmer were responsible for the Nachtkino.

During this time they also published a little periodical and named it: 'Lyssa humana. Magazine for the cultural rearmament'. The topics of the magazine went beyond the concern for cinema and its history and absorbed all realms of creative culture. Edmund Bachmeier and Walter Heilmeier contributed to the magazine and also made suggestions for the program at the cinema.
    The film club had allowed Nachtkino to exist for a limited span of time only, but its success made it possible to go on now using the name Lyssa humana.

    By then the group had already decided to operate culturally beyond the mere projection of movies, and a founding manifest was signed which defined Lyssa humana as a loose organisation without any binding rules. In the years thereafter a multitude of publications were produced, most often pamphlets, flyers with no advertising intentions. And from 1989 to 2000 there were at least 90 special movie events.

In August 1988 Lyssa humana performed for the first time as a musical group at the cinema event called 'Dada For Now', later it performed quite often in tandem with Delir Noir. Many of the impressive print and object mini-series were produced for these occasions. The movie events, however, were always at the core of all activity and later moved from the city gallery's cinema to the privately owned Stali cinema until the year 2000.

Lyssa humana's well-founded knowledge of art history and subculture made it possible to meld diverse styles and techniques which they called 'apocalypse culture'. 1989 they held a 10-part seminar at the city's adult education center VHS and added 4 movie events at the cinema to accompany the course.

Lyssa humana was less a loose group with strict rules, but rather a close-knit community with a decidedly open perception of what culture is about. Disappointed and downright appalled by the petit-bourgeois mentality even within the left-wing scene Lyssa humana was first of all a protestion against the censorship from the bourgeois established culture authorities and against the self-censorship of the autonomous opinion leaders. The intention was to revisit, renew and rethink the initial impetus of the early modern, especially Dada, therefore using the term 'cultural rearmament'. Such culture is 'apocalyptic', since it had to fight off the hostility of contemporary culture coming from all sides. Lyssa humana is musically 'industrial', since it's the intersection where Luigi Russolo's futurist noise manifest, John Cage's aesthetics of aleatoric sound production, Kraftwerk's electronic pop music and the punk rebellion's D.I.Y. principles meet together.

Zwischen Abscheu und Ekstase
Das Zeitalter der industriellen Kultur

Industrial entsteht aus extremen Randformen der Kunst und besitzt keinen klar identifizierbaren, expressiven öffentlichen Stil.
Industrial bewegt sich zwischen Subkultur und Kunst.
Der interdisziplinäre Ansatz von Industrial verbindet die Musik mit Technologie, Wissenschaft, Literatur und Kunst. Der Schwerpunkt dieses subkulturellen Stils liegt in der Musik, um die sich dann unterschiedliche ästhetische und literarische Medien gruppieren, die die Intention der Musik im Sinne eines Gesamtkunstwerks unterstreichen und erweitern.
Bei der Analyse der Industrial Culture sind die engen Verbindungen zu künstlerisch- avantgardistischen Bewegungen auffällig geworden. Industrial entsteht Ende der 60er Jahre aus einem künstlerischen Umfeld und entwickelt sich zu einer Kultur, in der künstlerische und subkulturelle Formen untrennbar miteinander verknüpft sind.
Wenn man Nitschs Definition vom Happening zugrundelegt - ein Ereignis, das Chaos, Bewegung, Umwälzung bringt und ein intensives Erleben bewirkt - , so kann man die Auftritte der Industrial Bands durchaus als Happenings bezeichnen.
Die Prinzipien, die Aktionskunst und Industrial Culture verbinden, sind also Multimedialität, Geräuschkunst und antimusikalische Elemente, die Benutzung von Robotern und Maschinen, der Einsatz des Körpers bis zur Selbstzerstörung und die Schock-Taktiken, die gegen das Publikum gerichtet sind.
Eine wesentliche Komponente des Industrials war und ist die Provokation entlang der äußersten Ränder des Erträglichen und damit einhergehend das Experiment mit audiovisuellen Grenzerfahrungen. Um zu irritieren bzw. zu schockieren werden extreme Darstellungen von Gewalt, Sexualität, Krankheit, Krieg und Tod mit bedrohlichen und aggressiven Klangcollagen und Lärm bis zur Erreichung der Schmerzschwelle unterlegt. Dabei ist die Provokation kein Selbstzweck, sondern beabsichtigt durch die Unausweichlichkeit seiner Drastik eine Verstörung des Hörers, die zum Keim emanzipativer Prozesse werden soll.
Als Einflüsse finden sich dabei Mail-Art-, Performance- und Aktionskünstler, Dada, Neo-Dada und Fluxus sowie Schriftsteller wie William S. Burroughs und Brion Gysin. Aber auch außerhalb der Kunst liegende Gebiete wie Psychologie, Werbung und Geschichte waren und sind wichtige Inspirationen für die Industrial Culture.

Industrial   emerges at the outermost fringes of art and has no distinctly   identifiable expressive public style.
Industrial see-saws between   subculture and art.
Industrial's interdisciplinary approach combines   music with technology, science, literature and art. The main focus of   this subcultural style lies in music accompanied by diverse  aesthetic  and literary media with the intention of emphasizing and  expanding the  music into a gesamtkunstwerk.Analyzing  industrial culture  the close relationships to artistic avantgarde  movements becomes  evident.
Industrial comes into being from an art  environment at the  end of the 1960s and evolves to a culture in which  artistic and  subcultural means become inseparable.
If you take  Nitsch's  definition of happening - an event, that delivers chaos,  movement,  revolution and causes intensive experience - , you can very  well call  the performances of industrial bands happenings.
The  techniques that  combine action art and industrial culture therefore are  multimedia,  noise art and anti-musical elements using robots and  machines and the  human body all the way to self-destruction, and shock  tactics which are  aimed at the audience.
An essential element of  industrial was and  still is to provoke as far as could be bearable and  therefore to  experiment with audio-visual thresholds.
In  order to irritate and to  shock extreme imagery of violence, sex, disease,  war and death are  added to menacing and and aggressive sound collages  and noise up to the  threshold of pain.
Provokation is, however, not  an end in itself,  but utilizes the inescapability of its drastic measures  in order to  unsettle the audience as a seed to an emancipative process.
You  will  find influences coming from mail art, performance and action artists,   Dada, Neo-Dada and Fluxus, but also from writers like William S.   Burroughs and Brion Gysin. 
But even beyond the artistic realm   industrial culture found and still finds important inspiration from the   fields of psychology, advertising and history.
